Operation TRENTON is the codename for British military element of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan.

Attacks on civilians often happen at night, by constructing solar lights, the British engineers deployed as UN Peacekeepers to South Sudan are keeping people safe.

“There are more than 300 personnel who make up the UK Engineer Task Force in South Sudan, making it one of the UK’s largest operational deployments.”

The British Engineers have installed over 100 solar powered lights in South Sudan to help make the streets safer.

Using cranes and their technical skills, these solar powered lights the engineers have installed will make the area safer for the local population to use at night time.

The basic role of the British Task Force is to carry out engineering work at the request of the United Nations Mission. The bulk of these tasks are within the UN compounds in Malakal and Bentiu.

The team installed over 100 solar lights along the remote roads.

The finished product below highlights just one of the many engineering tasks the team have finished in-country.
