In pictures: Cambrian Patrol

Deep into the Welsh countryside, armed forces personnel from around the world took part in NATOs toughest patrolling challenge

Armed forces from all over began their patrols after receiving a set of orders around model pits that represented the ground they would soon become familiar with.

The teams of eight set off during all hours of the day and night, from 3am to 8pm. The time they set off really didn't matter as they had 37 miles of Welsh foothills to cover, with a variety of arduous challenges along the way.

Along their way, they dealt with casualties caused by a vehicle that crashed into a minefield, they had to cross a river 40 meters wide, conduct artillery target acquisition and call in close air support. The list goes on, it's no wonder they dub this the toughest patrolling challenge in NATO.
