Combat Medics prepare to support the NHS in Harrogate
Combat Medical technicians have been preparing to join Healthcare professionals at the NHS Nightingale Hospital in North Yorkshire
As part of the governments response to the Coronavirus outbreak, Combat Medics and other military personnel will join the NHS Nightingale site in Harrogate, North Yorkshire to support the NHS with clinical duties and other general duties.
Ahead of their deployment, the troops have been undergoing training with the NHS including learning how to use Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) when supporting the NHS in the fight against Coronavirus.
During training sessions, a variety of different equipment and techniques were demonstrated to ensure personnel are able to support the NHS.
Personnel were able to try on the different PPE kit and learn how to properly dispose of it after using.
Of the 145 personnel deploying to support the NHS in North Yorkshire, 35 Medical Technicians will support healthcare professionals, with basic patient care and monitoring.
The further 100 personnel will assist with general duties such as porterage, equipment maintenance, stores management and distribution.
The Harrogate facility was officially opened by Captain Tom Moore, the 99-year old Army veteran who has raised over £27 million for NHS charities, on the 21 April.
Members of the Armed Forces have been involved with the build of the temporary hospital in Harrogate from the start, including attending initial recces and providing logistic and planning support.
